Since 1987, Massachusetts has led the New England region with its comprehensive legislative mandate that requires insurance coverage for the diagnosis and treatment of infertility. Since 1987, two more New England regional states joined Massachusetts in mandating insurance coverage for the treatment of infertility: Rhode Island in 1989 and Connecticut in 2005. To date, only 15 states have laws mandating the insurance coverage of infertility diagnosis and/or treatment.
As with any law, however, different interpretations of individual statutes have been made, which further confuses an already challenging issue: how a person grappling with infertility can receive the coverage that is rightfully his or hers.
RESOLVE New England is committed to being a leading resource to assist the New England infertility community in accessing mandated insurance coverage for the diagnosis and treatment of their disease.
